GuruGanesha Singh

GuruGanesha Singh is a skilled guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur, and leading figure in establishing World Sacred Music as one of the most increasingly popular genres. GuruGanesha resides happily in Herndon, Virginia with MataMandir Kaur, his beloved wife of twenty-five years, and has now dedicated his life to his music and band in the hopes that it will better the lives of others. In his music, it is plain to see the compassion and warmth he has in his heart, as well as the strength in his Sikh faith. GuruGanesha began to record as part of the Peace Family, a group featuring the extraordinary, angelic voice of Snatam Kaur. In 2000, he became Snatam’s manager, her guitarist, and co-vocalist. GuruGanesha helped launch Snatam as a solo artist with the Spirit Voyage album release Prem, the first of many outstanding CDs. GuruGanesha’s shimmering, evocative guitar melodies and supple chordal rhythms played an integral role in creating Snatam’s signature sound (“Spirit Voyage”). GuruGanesha and Snatam’s collaboration over the years has been very successful and always in the name of humanity and world peace.

In 1973, he made the difficult choice to leave a rock band known as the Cat’s Cradle on a spiritual path to embrace the Sikh faith and the practice of Kundalini Yoga. “His spiritual guide, the world-renowned master of Kundalini Yoga, Yogi Bhajan, told the young man, “‘Whatever you leave behind to walk this path will re-manifest later, in a higher form’” (“Spirit Voyage”). With the new album, Kundalini Surjhee, a new live project with singer Tina Malia titled Song of the Soul, and an on-going musical collaboration with Snatam Kaur, GuruGanesha feels that he is now experiencing the complete realization of the prophecy Yogi Bhajan made many years ago (“Spirit Voyage”).
GuruGanesha Singh and his band truly are one of a kind. A fan of the band on the GuruGanesha website wrote, “The deep and pure happiness emanating from GuruGanesha’s being was so strong it was tangible. It makes me smile and brings a peacefulness to my heart, seeing such happiness in human form. It gives me hope, as does this music which gives a place to rest and be held in beauty and love.” As I listened to them, I could see why so many people have found comfort and peace from their music. Not only are they talented, but they use their talents in hope that one day the world will be at peace. All of the band members seem extremely loving and carefree, a role model group of musicians of the Sikh religion dedicated to spread harmony in people’s lives and change the world through the beautiful sounds created and powerful words sung.
