Final Project: Islamophobia in the wake of the NYPD’s Surveillance of Muslims

I chose to work with this topic because of a speaker on islamophobia I was able to see on campus. Islamophobia was a common theme in the articles surrounding the NYPD’s surveillance of Muslim Americans as they were trying to find possible hubs of terrorist activity. These people were targeted for surveillance in direct correlation to their religious affiliation. New Jersey even declared it a legal action and said that they believe the surveillance will continue with their efforts.

This overt action has compelled people to stop and think about Islamophobia and the detrimental effects it has on the Muslim American population. Being targeted due to religion, race, gender, or creed are clear “no-no’s” in our constitution, so why is it still happening?

I created a wordpress site to uncover my findings in relation to the media’s coverage of this event, and also made a word cloud based off articles, blogs, and other media sources I found in relation to this.

Thank you, and enjoy!
