ABSTRACT:  When talking about three tragedies that have occurred in the past century, Pope Francis caused a lot of tension when he called the mass killing of Armenian people by the Ottoman Empire a genocide. He was at Peter’s Basilica in front of the Armenian President and church leaders when he said this. The Armenian President agreed with what the Pope had to say, but people such as Ankara, one of Turkey’s top clerics, did not. European Parliament also joined Pope Francis to urge Turkey to recognize the massacre as a genocide. We will explain the event in more detail, the history of the mass killing, and how both sides have been portrayed in the news in the podcast below.
